Pointing A Records to Vitality South

You may want to ask….

Do you have control or access to the DNS records? We need two A records changed to 3.210.112.88

Do you feel comfortable changing the A records?

We need to coordinate a time when you can change the records and we can run a script within minutes of the change.

About A Records

Ideally, we want to be able to log into a customers previous hosting site. If we are not able to gain access to their previous hosting site we will need to ask the customer or the person/agency controlling their hosting to point two A records to Vitality South.

There will be two A records that will need to be pointed to Vitality South.

A Record #1: domain – Example: domain.com

A Record #2 www.domain.com

What is an A Record?

The A in A record stands for Address. … A Records are the simplest type of DNS records, and one of the primary records used in DNS servers.

What is the IP Address at Vitality South?

3.210.112.88

What does an A record in DNS look like?

Example #1

Example #2

The above screen shots are from Route 53. Go Daddy’s look a little different; however they are A records.

The second line shows a CNAME record for the www. This is the same as A record. They will need to change CNAME record to an A record for the WWW.

If they are using GoDaddy they will need to change the CNAME to an A record; actually it is not necessary but good practice. It is possible if on GoDaddy there is no www record at all. GoDaddy will host without an A record. Vitality South must have an A record.

If we are not able to gain control of the old DNS someone will need to change the two A records.

We need to run the script to make a website go live with minutes of the A records being changed. If this is not done the site will go down.

We want to make sure we record old DNS A records just in case we need it. We should already have the DNS record at the point of changing to GO LIVE.
